Install Dolby Atmos on Android Oreo Devices

If you are a music lover then you are probably familiar with Dolby Atmos. Not all devices have support for it built-in however, with this guide, you will be able to install Dolby Atmos on your Android device. We recently covered how you can get Dolby Atmos on the OnePlus 6, but now any Android device with Oreo will be able to have it. With Dolby Atmos, you will experience music with new perspective on your Android phone. This Dolby engine was basically created for cinemas but it didn’t take long for it to be available for Android devices — Lenovo A7000 was the first ever device to have support for this. As we already know that Android is a versatile mobile operating system as it has lot of customization options. Thanks to this, developers have extracted Dolby Atmos from Lenovo A7000  and ported it to work with all Android devices that are running Android Oreo 8.1

There are different ways of installing Dolby Atmos on your Android device. The first one is to root your phone in order to install it but rooting your device will make void warranty. The other route is to install it directly (no root) which is preferred and has been detailed ahead. There are few devices which are compatible with Dolby Atmos but the service is not installed so you have to root your device. This guide will teach you how to install Dolby Atmos without rooting your Android device.

How to Install Dolby Atmos on Android Oreo Devices

Before starting the installation process make sure that your device is running Android Oreo.

Step 1 – First download the Dolby Atmos APK file from the link and then copy it from your PC to your Android device

File: Dolby-Digital-1.6.apk

Step 2 – If you are installing an APK file for the first time then enable unknown sources by going to Settings > Security > Allow unknown sources.

Step 3 – Now locate the Dolby Atmos APK file from your phone’s file manager that you just downloaded from the link above. Tap on it to install the APK file.

Step 4 – After the installation, open Google Play Music App on your device and go to the Settings by tapping on the 3 line icon then disable default equalizer of your Android device.

Step 5 – In Google Play Music app, again go to the Settings > Equalizer now you can enable Dolby Atmos from there.

Step 6 – All you have to do is Reboot your device. After the device completes it reboot, open the Google Play Music app and enjoy the best sound experience with Dolby Atmos.

  1. Thanks for the APK mate. I tried it on my Huawei Nova 3i and it worked like a charm. One thing though, I downloaded the APK on my laptop then transfered to the phone. Upon clicking install, it never asked about 3rd party app permissions (maybe that was activated by default, the phone being new and all), but when I got into the Google music player I discovered the dolby was already chosen as default and the equalizer deactivated for me. The sound is great and the options to choose from are quite a lot. Glad to also have a user setting thrown in as well.
