Every old Android version starts to lose its market share with time. Some versions take a lot of time but some start to do so quickly.
Android Lollipop was released in 2014 and it kept dominating the market with it’s increasing market share. It was the first Android version with Material design and people loved it. Android Marshmallow, the latest version of Android was released in October last year and it is continuously capturing the market share as it is the latest version. The Marshmallow is now installed on 13.3% Android devices, up from 7.5% 2 months ago. The Lollipop, on the other hand, started to lose it’s market share for the first time in May. It was at 35.8% in April and 35.6% in May. This month, with a slight fall down, it has reached the market share of 35.1%.
Lollipop has not fallen down much but the Marshmallow has increased its market share significantly. There are still a number of devices which will be upgraded to Marshmallow. All the new devices area also coming with Marshmallow out of the box, which means that Marshmallow will keep increasing its market share for some months now.
Froyo is still in the list with 0.1% market share. This market share is consitant for almost a year now. There are still some people who are using Froyo and they are not upgrading their devices for some reason. Ice Cream Sandwich is 1.7% and the Gingerbread is still more than Ice Cream Sandwich with 1.9% share. Jelly Bean still has a huge 17.8% share but it is decreasaing day by day. We hope that Marshmallow will take over the Jelly Bean in a couple of months.
