Samsung has announced its ultra low-end device, the Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini for the emerging markets. As Samsung is the biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world and produces amazing flagship devices but it also focuses on emerging markets and produce low-mid range smartphones as everyone cannot always afford a high-end phone.
The phone is introduced in the Bangladesh first and costs only around $80 there. It comes with a 4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 480 x 800 (WVGA). The RAM on the phone is just 768 MB but it should be enough to run basic apps like WhatsApp and Facebook. Some high-end games will have problems running on this device. The CPU is pretty amazing. It comes with Quad Core CPU with 1.2 GHz clock speed which will ensure lag free performance.
The main camera on Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini is 5 MP CMOS. It is a fixed focus camera and also lack an LED flash. The camera will take bright and clear images according to Samsung The front camera is a VGA unit which should be good for video calls and selfies. Internal storage is 8 GB which can be expanded by a Micro SD card up to 128 GB so storage is not an issue in this low-end phone.
This is a dual sim phone and only supports 3G. 4G is unsupported on both sims. The phone lacks NFC of course and it has Wifi-Direct for faster file sharing.
As mentioned, the phone is available in Bangladesh now for $80.
the fixed focus kills it for me, definitely returning 🙁 why would they even make a phone like that is beyond me
