Debloater: Uninstall System Apps with Magisk Module

This guide explains how to uninstall system apps, remove bloatware and free up space with Debloater Magisk module. Annoyed by system apps that take precious storage space and can’t be uninstalled? You can use Debloater (Magisk module) to delete them and regain space. Relying on root, this specific module is designed to help users debloat (get rid of pre-installed, unnecessary system apps) their devices. While manufacturers partner up with different brands and services to add built-in apps, most of the time, users find these annoying and generally disable them. However, disabling them doesn’t free up space which is why you need something like Debloater.

Magisk Modules have contributed a lot to Magisk root’s overall success. Following a single format, developers are able to pack their mods and tweaks into universal or sometimes device specific packages referred to as Modules which can then be flashed easily by the end user. These are several modules to remove bloatware and uninstall system apps, but Debloater seems to be the easiest. In this guide, we will focus mainly on Magisk Debloater.

How to Uninstall System Apps (Bloatware) with Debloater

The very first requirement of this tutorial is that your Android device is fully rooted with Magisk installed. If not, you will have to first root your Android device before proceeding. This tutorial is broken down into three parts to make it easier. We still recommend you read through the guide once before actually performing it.

1. Install Busybox

Step 1 – Open up Magisk Manager.

Step 2 – Go to Downloads section and then tap on search icon.

Step 3 – Search for Busybox and tap on the download icon in the result.

Step 4 – Finally, click on install.

2. Get Debloater Magisk Module

Step 1 – Open up Magisk Manager.

Step 2 – Go to Downloads section and then tap on search icon.

Step 3 – Search for Debloater (Terminal Emulator) and tap on the download icon in the result.

Step 4 – Finally, click on install.

3. Install Terminal App and Grant Root Access

You now should have a working debloater utility. However, to use it, you need to have a Terminal app. There are various Terminal emulators available on Play Store and you can use any one. For our tutorial we will make use of Termux.

After installation, do the following steps.

Step 1 – Launch the app and type the following and click enter.

su

Step 2 – The app will display a pop-up, grant it access.

Step 3 – Run the following command, this will load up options from Debloater.

debloat

Step 4 – Few options will be displayed on screen. Choose the one you want. If you don’t find the option in one selection, you can return back and select the next. For our tutorial, we will assume you want to view System Apps. For that, enter the corresponding number and press enter.

Step 5 – An app list should be displayed. Enter the number corresponding to the app and hit enter, this will delete the app.

That’s all to it! You should now have successfully deleted the system app or apps that you wanted to.
