As we have gotten our hands on the new Vivo V15 Android phone, here is the complete unboxing experience. While there will be our thorough testing process for the smartphone, we have discussed some initial impressions right here. The most stand-out feature for Vivo V15 is the minimal bezel, zero notch / obtrusion display that the brand calls Ultra Full View Display. This is all possible thanks to the front camera being moved into a small mechanical module that resides within the body of the smartphone and only comes out when required. Now, let’s unbox this unique Vivo V15 phone and see what ships within the packaging.
While the moving camera does fetch a lot of attention, there is more to a smartphone than just that. For internals, Vivo V15 is spec-ed as a budget-level device. For core processing, there is a Mediatek P70 octa-core CPU coupled with 6GB RAM. Further, there are triple lens cameras on the back including a wide-lens as well. Similar to previous V11 series, there is a unique paint-job on the back that adds character. Other key things include 4000 mAh battery, fingerprint scanner and 64GB storage. Now, lets proceed to unbox Vivo V15.
The Vivo V15 box features a complete render of the phone — both front and back — up top. There is also a mention of 32MP and 6GB RAM. While the RAM part is totally understandable, the MegaPixel stat is a bit vague. For many, this might look like the main camera is 32MP whereas it is not — this is reffering to the front module. Anyways, for the back of the box, there are few details listed such as the Ultra Full View display, 4000mAh battery and AI Triple Cameras. Now, as we remove the top half, first, we are met with a rectangular thick envelope which houses a tough clear case for the phone, literature and also a SIM ejection tool. This approach, although seldom used, is to protect the smartphone, while it is in shipping, from bumps.
After the envelope, packed within the box is the phone itself. Taking it out, the device feels quite ergonomic despite its large size which is due to its curved back. Our unit is painted in Topaz Blue finish which immediately glistens in light and also has a weave texture to it. Setting the phone aside, there are various accessories packed in as well. As Vivo V15 has a headphone jack, there are standard pair of headphones. Further, there is a travel adapter which supports up-to 18W of charging and lastly, there is a single microUSB cable as well.
Tracing back to the Vivo V15 itself and its movable selfie module, the elevating camera is operated by motors within the smartphone and can only be triggered via software. Where the movement is smooth and fast enough, there is still a question of reliability after a few drops — almost inevitable for smartphones — as well as general usage. Also, Vivo V15 comes with a screen protector pre-applied which is a bonus.
Immediate gain from having a moving camera, as discussed, is the display itself. And, with the brief time we tested the phone, it resembles holding a complete chunk of glass without any borders. Further, indirectly, this also results in heightened security as front camera is physically hidden hence it can’t relay any footage while not in use.
For software, Vivo is shipping Funtouch OS 9 based on Android 9.0 Pie. Upon first looks, this skin is a bit unconventional which is good to experience. For instance, the notification pull down is quite clean because the quick-access buttons are hidden in a bottom cluster.
