Huawei MatePad 10.4: Exterior & Design

Straight off, let’s start our review with the hardware, MatePad 10.4, as the name clearly suggests, features a large 10.4 inch IPS display at a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels. The bezels are thin but just large enough so accidental touches while holding the display can be avoided.

Huawei MatePad 10.4 Review

For the overall design and exterior, there are two major colors offered, Midnight Grey which is the color of our variant and also, White. The back is matte plastic and features a camera bump on the top left side. Going around the tablet, there is a SIM and expansion tray on the right side. This tray supports 4G connectivity and also brings upto 512GB of microSD card expansion to the tablet. Internally, the tablet is being offered in 64GB and 128GB storage variants hence this will be a key feature for many prospective tablet buyers.

At the bottom, there is USB type-C port and large speaker grills that flank the port on each side. Similarly there are speaker grills on the top as well in addition to the basic power button. Thanks to being tuned by Harmonn Kardon, MatePad’s stereo speaker array offers some of the best sound in its class.

Huawei MatePad 10.4: Performance and Battery

Moving our focus to the internals, overall performance and usability of the MatePad 10.4, Huawei has managed to pack in Kirin 810 chipset on the device which is then coupled with 6GB of RAM. This makes the device simply blaze through day to day to tasks. More, the device runs EMUI 10.1 out of the box that is based on Android 10. Since MatePad is a 2020 Huawei device, there is no support for Google Play Store. Instead, users have to rely on AppGallery and Petal Search.

Before we jump into benchmarks and gaming performance as tablets are the prime devices to enjoy media and play games, Huawei has managed to pack in a 7,250mAh battery that can last the tablet easily 2 days under heavy use and even more than that for average use cases.

Huawei MatePad 10.4 Benchmark

With the Kirin 810 processor, MatePad 10.4 is able to handle games pretty well. We tried out Asphalt 9 and as you can see, the tablet runs it at a remarkable framerate. The display’s resolution is proportionate to the power which makes for a very enjoyable experience. Yes, the pixel density is on the low side but you won’t be using this tablet as near to your face as your phone so that doesn’t really make a substantial difference. Overall, the tablet is capable enough to handle demanding games.

Huawei MatePad 10.4: Software

Closing the software performance discussion, Huawei has integrated some amazing tablet multi-window features. These really enhance overall productivity and make the large display much more usable. Users can interact with multiple apps at the same time thanks to this functionality and the feature is pretty intuitive as well.

Huawei MatePad 10.4: Camera

MatePad 10.4 comes with a single camera setup on the back. The sensor is rated at 8MP and can record upto 1080p. This unit is no game changer but rather just a basic feature on a tablet so that, when required, users can utilize it. We have attached some sample pictures through which you can judge the performance.

The tablet also features a 8MP front camera. This unit, in our opinion will be used more by tablet users during video calls and online meetings. Again, the camera itself isn’t a game changer but does an okay job.

Conclusion

Concluding, the MatePad 10.4 delivers some great performance for the price. Amazing battery as well as sound along with a good display make it a great tablet for media consumption, online classes heck even as a first device for young children. The only downside would be the missing Google Services.
