Realme 3: Unboxing and First Impressions

Realme 3 has just been launched in Pakistan, if you are looking to get one, here is our complete unboxing experience of the phone. Realme is quite a young but successful brand. Making an impact with Realme 2 Pro, the brand has recently gone on to release the successor which of course is Realme 3. The whole philosophy behind the company is to provide affordable, value focused smartphones that deliver a no-compromise experience. Taking this into account, Realme 3 is one of the most complete budget phones being offered right now in terms of pricing, specs and design. Before we publish our full review after thoroughly testing the phone, here are our first impressions and complete unboxing of Realme 3.

For any smartphone in 2019, there are few things consumers have come to expect as “standard”. This includes, fingerprint scanning, reduced bezels, at least dual rear cameras and also a tall display. Fortunately, Realme 3 has all of these covered. Further, design-wise, the phone comes in two gradient color choices along with a standard black finish. To keep costs down, the back is plastic but it has been painted in such a way that it looks similar to glass, from a distance. To tie it all, Realme is using ColorOS 6 as its software base.

Realme 3 Unboxing

Starting from the box itself, we appreciate Realme going with quite a minimal approach to its branding. The box has a grey and yellow color scheme, same as last year. It features a big 3 up top signifying the model number and also it has the Realme logo. The base of the box has a sticker which explains model number, storage, RAM and also color of the device. In our case, the device came with 64GB and 4GB of RAM. Different regions might have different configurations — this is for Pakistan. Further our unit arrived in Radiant Blue finish. Removing the top half, we are immediately greeted with an envelope which contains warranty card, manuals, quick guide, a clear case and also the SIM eject tool. Previously, phones were placed right at the top but only recently brands have started to adopt this approach as it protects the phone in shipping.

Once the envelope is out, we are met with Realme 3. Holding the device, it feels premium and has a solid build. Also, the fingerprint scanner is placed quite ergonomically at the back. Inspecting the phone, there is a microUSB connection at the bottom along with a 3.5mm headphone jack. The buttons are placed on each side hence making them hard to distinguish. For the front, there is a minimal bezel display that comes with a tear-drop notch.

Setting the phone aside, the box further contains a travel adapter and a microUSB cable. There are no headphones unfortunately but we are glad Realme didn’t remove the standard headphone jack. The accessories are all in standard white color.

Realme 3 costs almost 30,000RS which is approximately $200. We seldom see phones hit this price let alone be as complete as Realme 3. By the looks of it, there are no drastic compromises within the phone to cut costs. One thing that the brand did for Pakistan is downgrade the processor from Mediatek P60 from the standard P70. The brand claims the performance difference between the two is negligible and decrease in price is much more substantiated for the consumer. We will be testing this device thoroughly in our complete review so stay tuned to see what we conclude about the performance of Realme 3.

Software is one more strong suit of Realme. Running ColorOS 6 from Oppo, Realme 3 provides a wholesome software suite filled with features. Further, running Android Pie, it is also quite secure and up-to speed with the latest stable Android source code from Google — as a new phone should be!
