Nokia 6.1 Plus: Unboxing and First Impressions

This here is the complete unboxing experience of Nokia 6.1 Plus — known as Nokia X6 in some regions — made by HMD Global. New Nokia 6.1 Plus was announced months after the original Nokia 6.1 and is just making its way to the Pakistani market. Whats special about Nokia phones in particular is the fact that all of them are Android One devices. Thanks to this, Nokia phones have the quickest software upgrade times. The new 6.1 Plus, being no exception, initially ships with Android Oreo but already has been upgraded to Android 9.0 Pie. For interested customers, here are our initial thoughts and unboxing of Nokia 6.1 Plus.

For starters, the new device carries a notch in order to provide better body-to-display percentage and also, to extend the edges as close to the borders as possible. Further, there is an upgraded Snapdragon 636 processor when compared with the original 6.1 which shipped with Snapdragon 630. For the main camera system, Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with dual sensors for better bokeh and HDR. The base storage offered is 64GB but that can be further expanded via microSD card slot. Right ahead, you can read about complete unboxing details for Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Nokia 6.1 Plus Unboxing

Starting with the box itself, it is the standard large flat square box that we have become accustomed from HMD Global. The top features a signature joining hands illustration as well as the silhouette of the device itself. In order to take out the phone, the main box slides out from the top cover. Once the box is out, customers are greeted with the smartphone itself on the right and a box housing all accessories on the right. Taking the phone out and holding it for the first time, there is a general premium feel to the device thanks to its glass back, metal surround and dense build. Our unit comes in White color but you can also choose Midnight Blue / Black.

Inspecting the accessories, there is a travel adapter included in the box along with a USB Type-C cable and a very basic pair of headphones. Fortunately, the device doesn’t skip the 3.5mm headphone jack. That’s not all though. Beneath all the cardboard, there is also literature present which includes user manual and also a warranty card — depending on your region, you might find this outside the box as well.

It is good to see Nokia increasing the base storage from 32GB to 64GB on the new 6.1 Plus. That’s not all that has been increased, the battery has seen a small bump in capacity as well and the display now works at an even higher resolution than 1080p thanks to its 19:9 ratio setup.

Apart from the hardware, the software is something which is key to the new Nokia Android experience. Due to Android One, we found the system to be quite close to stock, vanilla Android. Further, as the device was running Android 9.0 Pie, it makes it one of the most cheapest offerings available with Pie.
