One of the most-selling Android phones these days is the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro that offer flagship-like performance, features and a world-class camera result. But does the Pixel 7 series have an SD card slot? When you spend around a thousand dollars on a high-end smartphone, you expect to get every possible feature available in other similarly priced devices. Sadly, that is not the case most of the time.
Mid-range Android phones still come with a SD card slot, and in most cases is available as a hybrid slot. That means, you get to choose whether you want to add a secondary SIM to your phone or use the same slot for a microSD card. On flagship devices like the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, the secondary SIM slot has been swapped with an eSIM leaving only one slot for a physical SIM – that means, no SD card.

Why do Mid-range Android Phones Have SD Card Slot?
The decision to include an SD card slot in a smartphone is usually made by the phone manufacturer based on a variety of factors, including market research, cost considerations, and the overall design of the device. This is why most flagship phones prioritize cutting-edge features over expandable storage that take up more space on the phone.
Mid-range Android phones are typically designed to appeal to a wider range of consumers who may be more price-sensitive. These consumers may prioritize affordability over other factors such as the latest technology or premium design features. This is where Android manufacturers try to cut costs and offer alternative features. Including an SD card slot in a mid-range phone allows users to expand their storage capacity without having to spend extra money on a higher-end device.
On the other hand, premium smartphones are typically designed to offer the latest and greatest technology, premium design features, and cutting-edge design. Removing the microSD card slot allows manufacturers to create thinner and more streamlined devices, which may be seen as more desirable by consumers looking for a premium Android experience.
Does Google Pixel 7 / Pixel 7 Pro Have SD Card Slot?
The answer is no, the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro does not have an SD card slot. As a fact, the Pixel series have never had expandable storage on any of their phones.
Instead of an SD card slot, Google has been offering ample internal storage with their Pixel lineup and for those who want to store a large number of photos and videos, there is always the Google One subscription for Google Photos. We actually suggest to use more of these cloud storage services instead of your phone storage as it allows you to easily access your data on any other phone, tablet or a computer.

Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro Storage Options
Google’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro both come with the storage options of 128GB and 256GB. There is also a large storage option of 512GB, but it is only available in the US in limited quantities and it is unknown if Google plans to bring this to other European and Asian markets.
We hope to see higher internal storage options next year from Google as 128GB for the base model seems to too low these days. Specially when the Samsung Galaxy S23 series now start at 256GB storage for the base model.
In conclusion, if you have already bought the Google Pixel 7 or the Pixel 7 Pro, you are stuck with the storage you have on your phone. However, consider getting premium storage from Google Photos, Dropbox or even OneDrive as it will definitely make your life easier. Or use Google Photos for free if you are completely okay with their image compression as it barely uses any Google account storage.
