How to Insert and Eject SIM / MicroSD Card Tray on Samsung Galaxy S9

This tutorial is about how to insert (or eject) the SIM card and microSD card on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. The phone was just announced recently at MWC 2018, and later this week we will be looking at Samsung starting pre-orders for both the phones in most countries around the world. Once the all new Samsung Galaxy S9 / Galaxy S9 Plus is shipped to you, the first thing you do is pop open the SIM slot and get your cellular connection going — after all, phones are also used to make phone calls. If you are confused which model to buy, check our our Samsung Galaxy S9 model numbers and variants guide.

In terms of overall design, Samsung Galaxy S9 is similar to the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note 8 and their previous models. The SIM card slot is at the top of the phone next to the secondary mic. All you have to do is find the slot and pop open it using a thin pin or the SIM ejection tool that comes inside the box. This is not very difficult to perform, however, people still end up searching how to get this done. Better safe, that sorry later – right? Let’s take a look at the SIM card / microSD card slot set up on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9+ phones.

As indicated in the diagram above, the microSD and SIM card tray is right at the top of the phone. Samsung has been putting the slot up there since the ancient Samsung Galaxy S6 when they first adopted this current design combination of glass and metal. If you have one of the official Samsung Galaxy S9 accessories on your device, you will have to remove it first.

Before you proceed, please make sure you have the nano SIM card. When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in nano SIM card. Please note, Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ only support nano SIM cards. Other sizes will not fit inside this tray. Samsung Galaxy S9: How to Insert, Eject SIM Card / MicroSD Card Tray

Both of the phones, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, have the hybrid dual SIM cards slot. That means, you can insert up to two SIM cards or you can go for a single SIM card and add an optional microSD card to expand your phone storage. So to the insert a microSD card, you will have to again open up the SIM card tray and insert the card in it.

Let us show how to do that:

Step 1 – Locate the SIM card / microSD card slot on the phone.

Step 2 – Find the SIM ejector tool in your Samsung Galaxy S9 / Galaxy S9+ box.

Step 3 – Insert the ejector tool in the hole which is on the slot tray. Push it slowly till the tray pops out.

NOTE: Be careful not to insert the ejector tool into the microphone hole located next to the SIM/microSD card slot.

Step 4 – Pull out the tray gently from the tray slot.

NOTE: You will notice there are two slots in this tray. As mentioned earlier, you can use two SIM cards in your Samsung Galaxy S9 or you can use a single SIM card with a combination of a microSD card.

Step 5 – Place your SIM card on the bottom and the microSD card on the top of the tray, with the gold contacts facing down.

Step 6 – Now slide the SIM card/Memory card tray back into the slot.

Make sure the tray went in perfectly and is fit right inside along with the rest of the phone body. If the tray is not properly pushed inside or is left open accidental, you can risk water and dust going inside the slot. This is usually the number one reason of water damage in a phone. So, check once again and proceed!

Note: The Samsung Galaxy S9 / Galaxy S9 Plus is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance. To maintain the water-resistant and dust-resistant features of your device, make sure that the SIM card/Memory card tray openings are maintained free of dust and water, and the tray is securely inserted prior to any exposure to liquids.

You are now ready to start using your all new Samsung Galaxy S9. Leave us a comment below if you run into any problems or issues with the network not being recognized or anything regarding the SIM tray.
