Google Pixel phones have been patched to latest May 2020 update and here is where you can download the complete May factory images. While Android R development is well under way, the brand is continuing with its monthly security enhancements on Android 10. This month’s May 2020 update focuses on improving security and addressing other bugs that have been reported by users. However, this time round, we haven’t seen a notable fixes change-log from Google. Ahead, users can download Google May 2020 update factory images for Google Pixel 4, 4XL, 3, 3XL, 3a, 3a XL, 2 and 2XL.
For increased security, Android source code is optimized each month to improve security. And to get these changes running on phones, Google releases a new package that is referred to as a patch. This patch then gets integrated by manufacturers into their own software as well as Google for their Pixel phones. To get the May 2020 firmware running, you can either updated automatically using OTA (Over-the-air) update or download the complete factory image from below if you want to manually upgrade.
Google Pixel Security Bulletin – May 2020 Update
Complete phone list of eligible devices that are receiving April 2020 Android 10 update is: Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3 and Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 2. Any devices not mentioned have been dropped from support and are no longer on the Google software update roster.
Prior to making these images available for manual download, Google starts pushing them directly through their update servers to compatible devices. We did see Check for Update functionality, which is built-in to the Android system, being fixed in the previous build so hopefully, it wont be causing any problems this time around. To check for an available update, go to Settings > System > System update > Check for update.
Last month, we saw Google focus on improving Bluetooth with April’s firmware update. For May, the company hasn’t listed an official change-log for functional features. This doesn’t mean nothing’s new, it just means that the new changes might not be directly noticeable by the end user but behind the scenes, latest firmware is more secure and reliable.
There is a complete security bulletin listing available which list down technical details of new May 2020 update, it can be read here. The terms listed there might not be understandable to most users but if you are a developer, you will find them useful.
