OnePlus is updating OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones to new OxygenOS 5.0.3 firmware based on Android 8.1 Oreo, carrying May 2018 security patch. The brand’s strategy with software updates is, it first releases an Open Beta — which we saw released earlier this month — and after successful testing by its users, it then integrates those changes into the stable build. OxygenOS 5.0.3 will be available for all OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones to download through OTA (Over-the-air) update system but if you are unable to receive it, you can also download it manually with the official link ahead.
The changes in this build are pretty substantial. Starting off with unlocking capabilities, you can now utilize face unlock on your OnePlus 3 / 3T. Further, the system has been fitted with performance improvements, latest May 2018 Android security patch, tweaked UI and updates to built-in apps. The security patch alone makes this update a must-install. The update procedure is quite easy if you are using the full OxygenOS 5.0.3 firmware — download link attached right ahead — you can use the stock recovery to flash it on your device.
OnePlus 6 was announced few days before so it seems the brand will be soon ending software support for both the 3 and 3T. There has been no official word on Android P arriving for these devices but we do hope it does. Nonetheless, you can try out this latest software update and reap all the benefits directly on your device.
