Samsung is now pushing One UI 2.1 official firmware updates to both Samsung Galaxy S10 as well as Galaxy Note 10 series carrying new features from recently announced Galaxy S20. While the new Galaxy S20 flagship lineup does come with better hardware, various software functionality that it carries can easily be run on older phones such as the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10. Rather than having customers resort to third-party mods, Samsung is officially launching Galaxy S20 features on older phones via official firmware release.
There’s a lot new with this firmware update. The camera functionality has been vastly improved with new Galaxy S20 features and modes. Further, the firmware itself carries April 2020 security patch — which is still pending to be launched for Google Pixel phones. Samsung Galaxy S10 / Galaxy Note 10 One UI 2.1 Update with Galaxy S20 Features
The latest firmware, as promised, brings over new software functionality that was first made available on Galaxy S20 phones. While the core UI remains the same as the last official firmware, this iteration brings with itself new functionality. Here’s a brief look:
One UI 2.1
Samsung, with this update, is bringing One UI 2.1 to Galaxy S10 and Note 10. One UI is the brand’s premiere skin that it ships on all its Android phones. With Android 10, One UI was upgraded to One UI 2.0. And after that, with the release of Galaxy S20, minor improvements were added and hence, One UI 2.1 was formed. It is now arriving for Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series phones.
New Camera and Gallery App Modes
Galaxy S20 launch event focused largely on Camera improvements. While the picture quality enhancement was primarily due to better hardware, there were various modes which could be replicated easily on older phones and that is exactly what the brand has done.
New modes coming to Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 include: Single Take, improved Night Mode, Night Hyperlapse, Pro Video mode, Quick Share, and Easy Share.
4K 60 FPS Video Recording
For the first time, front camera on both Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 will be able to record 4K video at 60 frames per second. Previously, 4K video was there but no option to record at 60fps. However, with the new One UI 2.1 firmware, that can be done!
April 2020 Security Patch
This firmware update also carries with itself latest April 2020 security patch. Samsung has been pushing new security patches before Google which is amazing to see. Similarly, with the update, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 phones will effectively run April 2020 security patch.
