Here is how you can start capturing 40MP photos using your Huawei Mate 20 or Mate 20 Pro smartphone. Seen earlier in P20 Pro, the new Mate 20 ships with a staggering 40MP sensor that can capture some amazingly detailed photos. However, by default, the camera app is set to use a lower resolution that matches two out of the three lenses. Fortunately, users can easily switch between higher 40MP resolution and other options available. For us, the main benefit is the extra detail this 40MP sensor carries. It is quite suitable for shooting landscapes and other wide shots.
Usually, 40MP photos take more space than other resolutions that the Mate 20 provides but that shouldn’t be an issue thanks to the base 128GB storage the phone comes with. Further, you can also setup Google Photos to backup all the pictures you take to save space. There is one downside, however, the 40MP setting doesn’t work with all special software modes unique to Mate 20. How to Capture 40MP Photos on Huawei Mate 20 / Mate 20 Pro
One of the key features for Huawei’s new 2018 Mate flagship, is its camera setup which is arranged in this new Matrix design. To utilize it fully, we recommend you capture images in 40 megapixels. How to do that? Follow the simple steps ahead.
For specific modes, the resolution is not user definable but for the generic photo mode, you can easily change it by going through these instructions.
Step 1 – Open the Camera app.
Step 2 – Make sure you are on the Photo mode. If not, slide the dial on top of the shutter button till you find Photo.
Step 3 – Tap on the Gear icon on the top right, this will open up the Settings menu.
Step 4 – From the menu, tap on the Resolution option and set it to 40MP. (By default, it is set to 10MP).
